288 tonnes stator exceptional transport from Genoa to San Severo
An exceptional industrial logistics operation on the roads of Apulia
Technology and expertise at the service of exceptional transport in Italy
Marraffa has successfully completed an operation of great logistical importance: the handling of a 288-tonnes stator along a route of over 160 km, from the port of Bari to the EnPlus turbogas power plant in San Severo, in the province of Foggia.
The very heavy industrial component, a stator for a gas turbine, came from the Ansaldo Energia plant in Genoa. The exceptional transport by road took place over three consecutive nights, thanks to careful planning and the use of special vehicles for exceptional transport. The convoy, 103 meters long and almost 5 meters wide, was towed by three tractors: two at the front and one at the rear, to support maneuverability and safety.
Transport with Girder Bridge System shoulders for heavy industrial transport
To ensure safe and stable load distribution, Marraffa used a Girder Bridge System on 42 axles. This is an advanced technology for the exceptional transport of heavy components, which allows the weight to be distributed across multiple axles and reduces the load on each point of contact with the road.
The company has two Girder Bridges: one of 250 tonnes and one, used for this project, with a capacity of up to 500 tonnes. This infrastructure represents a strategic resource for the large industrial plants handling.
This project demonstrates once again Marraffa's expertise in exceptional transport in Apulia and throughout the country. The success of the operation was possible thanks to perfect coordination between the experience of the operational team and the technical design work, which took care of every aspect of the transport.
What is the stator of a gas turbine?
The stator is the fixed part of a gas turbine, essential for the operation of the plant. Its task is to guide the flows of hot gases towards the rotor, the moving part of the turbine, which transforms thermal energy into mechanical energy.
