What's the girder bridge system?
The "Girder Bridge System", is a system designed for exceptional transport and the handling of generators, transformers, motors and turbines of large size and weight.
What does a Girder bridge transport look like and how does it work?
When transporting with the girder brdige, the exceptional load rests on extended beams, which in turn rest on dividers positioned on modular trailer axles.
Like a beam bridge, this system has been designed to allow the load to be distributed at 12 tonnes per axle, which is currently, almost everywhere, the maximum limit granted by the road owners.

The large weights, in this case, require a very high number of axles and wheels (40 axles-320 wheels): for this reason, the classic long trolleys (60-70 meters) could suffer bowing due to the concentrated weight in the middle of them, or in the worst case, structural breakage of the trailers. Therefore, the method of transporting concentrated weights, used by Marraffa, is the Girder Bridge System, i.e. transport with shoulders.
What types of goods can be transported with the Girder Bridge System?
One of the types of goods to be transported with exceptional measures, therefore one of the most complex out of shape transport to be carried out, is certainly that of products in the "POWER" sector, i.e. transformers, reactors, etc.. These components, which will serve power plants (often located in isolated and inaccessible areas) are very concentrated loads although relatively small, but very heavy.
Girder Bridge System, the conveyor used by Marraffa
Marraffa Srl, years ago was equipped with two 220 ton and 500 ton "girder bridge" systems. The girder bridge is a beam system that is positioned between two modular trailers creating a bridge that rests on the centre of the two trolleys/trailers.
