Marraffa supports a social awareness initiative, a solidarity project in Madagascar

Reducing CO2 emissions requires integrated logistics management in transport companies

10 March 2022

A social responsibility initiative on the largest building site in Italy covered by the 110% building super bonus measure. Marraffa was given the task of transporting the windows to be donated to a solidarity project for Madagascar.

What Marraffa has done

In Martina Franca (TA) an entire neighborhood is the subject of building work to improve energy efficiency and produce renewable energy. The operation involves the construction of a "roof" for all the buildings, the replacement of boilers, the installation of thermostatic valves, an advanced thermoregulation system and the replacement of windows.

These windows, although still in good condition, are not in line with energy efficiency standards. This is why families have been looking for solidarity projects to donate these windows and doors and give them a new life.

The search led to Lecce, to Don Fernando Doria, the priest of the San Vincenzo De' Paoli church, animator of a complex solidarity project for Madagascar. Part of the charitable initiative concerns the construction of an arts and crafts school in Nosy Be, in the diocese of Ambasa, on a 1,200-metre plot of land. The school will be a trade and language school for at-risk boys and girls, with the aim of establishing roots in the area and generating social and employment benefits.

Marraffa coordinated the transport of the fixtures to be donated to charity

The transport of the window frames to be donated to the solidarity project for Madagascar was managed with a circular approach, thanks to the involvement of the Marraffa company.

The dismantled windows were loaded onto Marraffa trucks, trailers and semi-trailers for the logistical transport of the window frames destined for the solidarity project, while the Werent company made the forklift machines available for rental for transport inside the site.

A concrete example of circular economy made possible thanks to the goodwill and sensitivity of the many people involved. From good things come good things.

Environmental sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility

A project of solidarity in which Marraffa is a key player. Logistics management is one of Marraffa's strong points and is also fundamental in its commitment to reducing environmental impact.

In order to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, Marraffa operates by reducing unloaded trips to a minimum. For this project, only "unloaded transports" were used to transport the windows from the Martina Franca district to the warehouses in Lecce, before they were shipped to the port of Genoa for their final destination in Madagascar.

Integrated logistics to reduce CO2 emissions

Marraffa has a fleet of vehicles that is constantly updated and renewed, to ensure high standards of compliance with the latest environmental regulations.

Heavy vehicles (trucks, but also buses and coaches) account for about 25% of total CO2 emissions in the entire transport sector, which is why for years now Marraffa has been committed to adopting policies in favor of environmental sustainability at all levels, starting with the management of the company fleet and ending with the adoption of the plastic free model in all company offices.
